Patience

Sep 13, 2026    Rev. Wayne Hokanson

What does it truly mean to be patient? Not the passive, white-knuckled waiting we often associate with the word, but a deep, active, Spirit-empowered way of living that shapes our character and reflects our trust in God. That is the heart of what we explore in this message. Drawing from Galatians 5 and Romans 8, we are reminded that patience is not simply a personality trait some of us are born with and others are not. It is fruit, the natural outgrowth of a life surrendered to the Holy Spirit. When love, joy, and peace take root as the attitudes we choose, patience begins to emerge as the character others can observe in us. The message challenges us to ask a hard question: when life bumps us, what spills out? Because whatever we are holding inside is exactly what comes out. This is an invitation to examine the composite of our lives, not as a checklist of behaviors to perform, but as a living, breathing expression of what we genuinely believe about God and His purpose for us.
