Live by the Spirit

Aug 16, 2026    Rev. Wayne Hokanson

What does it actually look like to live a Spirit-filled life? Not in a dramatic or overly religious sense, but in the everyday, practical reality of how we treat people, how we carry ourselves, and what others see when they look at us? This message digs into Galatians 5 and challenges us to rethink something we may have taken for granted for years. The famous list we know as the fruit of the Spirit is not a collection of separate virtues to check off a list. It is a single, unified result of the Holy Spirit genuinely at work in a life. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are not achievements we earn through effort alone. They are the natural consequence of allowing the Spirit to shape us from the inside out. The message draws a compelling distinction between attitudes we choose, character that forms over time, and actions that flow from that character. It is a framework that helps us understand why lasting change is possible, and why it cannot happen apart from the Spirit's influence. If we have ever wondered whether our faith is visibly making a difference in the world around us, this is a message worth sitting with.
